An update on the wellbeing of a sidelined member of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur ranks has been forthcoming on Thursday evening.
The player in question? Ben Davies.
Stopper Davies, of course, is fresh off an altogether disappointing World Cup campaign in the Middle East, with Wales.
En route to a group stage exit, the 29-year-old was forced into a premature departure from the Dragons’ three-goal final day defeat at the hands of England.
Ensuing medical tests confirmed that Davies had suffered an abdominal injury, albeit the extent of which, initially, remained unclear.
On Thursday, though, an update on the situation has arrived.
And it is one which will no doubt come as a concern to those in a position of power on the Lilywhite half of north London.
As per a report from Alasdair Gold of football.london, Davies could be in line for an extended spell out of action.
This comes with the defender’s ‘painful’ oblique issue having proven to be more serious than first feared.
Davies, in turn, could well be unavailable for selection for Tottenham’s post-World Cup return to Premier League action. Conte’s troops are set to kick their campaign back into gear in a meeting with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
