‘That’s disappointing’: Fans react to Morgan Freeman’s involvement in World Cup opening ceremony

The opening ceremony for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar took place on Sunday afternoon.


The 2022 World Cup is set to get underway on Sunday afternoon.

The first game of the World Cup will see hosts Qatar face off with Ecuador at 4 pm UK time.

Despite being the hosts, Qatar were not expected to make it out of their group.

But if they wanted to stand any chance of doing so, they needed to pick up a win against Ecuador, who are arguably their easiest test.

Ahead of the tournament getting underway, the opening ceremony took place a short time ago.

American actor Morgan Freeman was the voice of the ceremony, voicing the opening video package and then taking to the stage for a speech.

The reaction to Freeman’s involvement in the ceremony has been mixed online, with many accusing the actor of participating in sports washing:
