Ten Hag sends message to Marcus Rashford ahead of Newcastle

Erik ten Hag has sent a message to Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford had been out of form for some time. During the beginning of 2022/23, though, Rashford has looked a much better player under Erik ten Hag.

With Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo out in the cold following his attempt to leave Manchester United in the summer, Ten Hag has looked to Rashford to fill the void up top in the Premier League.

He has so far featured 10 times for United this season, scoring five goals and three assists, meaning he has already matched his goal contribution tally from the entirety of last season.

However, Rashford had 10 shots against Omonia on Thursday this week and failed to score.

As a result, Ten Hag has now urged Rashford to be more clinical:

“He did a lot of things well but finally he knows that he has to be more clinical and he had to score a goal,” Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Sunday’s visit of Newcastle United.

“When you have such good movements, you make such good combinations, you have such good actions, then you have to finish.

“But I know sometimes it’s the game, it’s not your night and it’s about the form of the day.

“But it can change to another game because I think he’s in a really good run and that shows in the chances he creates.

“Now it’s two games he’s been a little unlucky. On Sunday [against Everton] he deserved a goal but they cancelled it. Today he didn’t score and maybe it was more by himself but I say save it for the coming week.”
