Southampton vs Norwich City betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Southampton vs Norwich prediction: Southampton 1-2 Norwich

Another huge relegation six-pointer in the Premier League.

Southampton claimed a long-awaited home win at the weekend.

Can they win back to back games at St Mary’s for the first time since March?

Norwich too are in decent form though and will travel down to the South Coast in confident mood.

Can either get a massive win in Hampshire?

Danny Ings has been in good form for Southampton this season. He is 11/4 to open the scoring and odds on at 5/6 to score anytime.

James Ward-Prowse has also been amongst the goals in recent matches. He is 6/1 to score first and 21/10 to add to his tally.

Teemu Pukki ended his own goal draught at the weekend. The Finn is 4/1 to break the deadlock and 7/5 to net again.

Shane Long

What a massive win for Southampton.

On Sunday, just like in this game, they hosted a side who also find themselves in the bottom three, Watford.

However, things certainly were not going to plan at half time as the Hornets took the lead.

But, with just 12 minutes to go Moussa Djenepo’s cross found Danny Ings who bundled in an equaliser.

From that point onwards, it felt like there was only one winner.

Thus, not long after, the goal duly arrived when James Ward-Prowse’s magnificent free-kick won Saints the game.

Relief around St Mary’s.

That was Southampton’s first home victory since April and only their 11th in 53 home league matches.

They remain in the bottom three but are 18th and just two points from safety.

Can they now make it back to back home wins?

Can Norwich claim a vital victory?

Norwich meanwhile will fancy their chances of leaving Hampshire with all three points themselves.

Daniel Farke’s side did not win at the weekend but they probably should have done.

They welcomed Arsenal to Carrow Road and, against the run of play, took the lead through Teemu Pukki after 21 minutes.

Their lead did not last long with Arsenal equalising from the penalty spot just before the half hour mark.

Nevertheless, the Canaries were back in front shortly after when Todd Cantwell found the bottom corner in first half stoppage time.

But, once again Arsenal equalised, this time from a corner 12 minutes after the interval.

After that though, it was all Norwich.

Kenny McLean and, on two occasions, Max Aarons went very close to sealing all three points for the Championship Champions.

But, 2-2 it finished and, overall, a good point for them especially given that they won 2-0 at Goodison the weekend before.

They are one point and one place below Southampton but will most certainly head to St Mary’s full of belief.

Can they make it back to back away wins and, potentially, climb out of the drop zone?

Southampton team news vs Norwich City

Given that they’ve won four points from their last two games, Ralph Hasenhüttl is unlikely to change much.

Alex McCarthy will continue in goal; he appears to be first-choice now ahead of Angus Gunn.

In defence, Jannik Vestergaard missed the Watford game through illness.

However, the Dane should be back and is expected to displace Jack Stephens.

Cédric Soares, Jan Bednarek and Ryan Bertrand will continue to make up the defence.

Ahead of them, James Ward-Prowse and captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will continue as the deeper duo in the 4-2-2-2 formation.

Ahead of them, Moussa Djenepo’s assists on Saturday should see him keep his place.

Stuart Armstrong is out with a hamstring injury until next week at least.

So Nathan Redmond is likely to start with Sofiane Boufal once again left on the bench.

Up front, Danny Ings has become the figurehead of this side.

His importance to this team can not be underestimated as he has scored seven of their 15 goals, the highest % of any player in the Premier League.

Michael Obafemi is likely to be his strike partner once again with Shane Long left in reserve.

Can this team claim a massive win?

Norwich City team news vs Southampton

As for the visitors, their injury list has shrunk in recent weeks so it is no surprise that results have therefore improved.

One, almost, ever-present has been Tim Krul in goal.

He’s made the fourth most saves in the Premier League (51) although only two goalkeepers have let in more goals than him.

In defence, since Christoph Zimmermann returned from injury they have not lost.

His centre-back partner, Ben Godfrey, ranks second in the league for blocks with 21.

Max Aarons, who was fantastic against Arsenal on Sunday, will continue at right-back.

He is one of just three Norwich outfielders to have played 1,080 minutes or over in the league so far.

There will be a change on the other side though.

Jamal Lewis, who is back from a knee problem, is expected to come back in for Sam Byram.

In midfield, Alexander Tettey and Josip Drmić are both unavailable.

Tom Trybull and Kenny McLean will keep their places but Mario Vrančić is likely to come in for Ibrahim Amadou.

Onel Hernández will start on one wing, chosen ahead of Emi Buendía.

Todd Cantwell will be on the other, looking to continue his fine form.

He has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games having only scored two goals in his previous 25 appearances.

Teemu Pukki was also amongst the goals on Sunday.

That ended the Finn’s 773 minute wait for a Premier League goals in which time he’d had 18 shots.

Can he fire the Canaries to a vital away win on the South Coast?
