Southampton vs Burnley
Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off saw Southampton and Burnley facing off.
The Clarets kicked off at St Mary’s sat 10th in the Premier League, only above 11th placed Southampton due to goal difference.
In terms of form, Burnley have improved somewhat in recent weeks, winning two and drawing one of their last three league ties.
But the Saints have also experienced an upturn in form in recent times.
After their 9-0 hammering against Leicester back in October, Southampton looked as though they could be set for a relegation battle this season.
But Ralph Hasenhuttl has dramatically turned Southampton’s fortunes around since, and before kicking off on Saturday, they were seven points clear of 17th place.
Chris Wood & Sofiane Boufal limp off
Despite their improvements of late, Southampton’s Saturday got off to a nightmare start.
Ashley Westwood put Sean Dyche’s side into the lead inside two minutes vs Southampton.
But the Saints would fight back, with standout star Danny Ings once again finding the back of the net in the 18th minute.
Ings has now scored a staggering 15 goals in the Premier League this term. Only Sergio Aguero and Jamie Vardy have netted more in the English top-flight this season.
The first 45 drew to a close with the score at 1-1.
And whilst both sides will have likely been fairly happy with that scoreline, both Southampton and Burnley were dealt injury blows during the first-half.
