Senegal 2-1 Ecuador: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction & more

Netherlands and Qatar played out their final World Cup group game on Tuesday.

Ecuador headed into the match with four points from their first two games, drawing with the Netherlands and seeing off Qatar.

Senegal, meanwhile, had three points, beating Qatar and losing to the Netherlands in matchweek one.

As a result, a draw would have been enough for Ecuador to go through, whilst Senegal knew they needed a win.

And when all was said and done, Senegal came away with the win to secure their spot in the last-16.

Senegal started the better of the two teams, with Ndiaye managing two shots on goal inside the first half-hour, both of which were saved.

Ecuador, on the other hand, did not test Mendy in the first 45, and were seemingly more eager to ensure they simply did not lose the game.

However, they failed to do so, with Senegal scoring from a penalty right before the half-time whistle. Piero Hincapie clattered into Sarr, who stepped up to score the resulting penalty.

Ecuador responded to going 1-0 down by making two changes at half time. And it was the South American side who scored the next goal as Felix Torres found Moises Caceido to level things up.

However, Senegal went back in front just a few minutes later, with Kalido Koulibably the goalscorer and the match-winner.
