Saudi chief speaks out on Lionel Messi signing

The general secretary of the Saudi Football Federation has reacted to talk of Lionel Messi being reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East.

Lionel Messi won the 2022 World Cup last month to cap off what has been a sensational career.

His attention has since turned to PSG and their hunt for another league title and their first-ever Champions League.

However, after this season, at the time of writing, Lionel Messi will become a free agent.

This has caused much speculation online, with the likes of FC Barcelona and Manchester City already tipped to make a move for the diminutive Argentine.

Another place Messi has been linked with is Saudi Arabia, where Cristiano Ronaldo is now playing.

And now, the Saudi Football Federation general secretary has been discussing a possible Messi signing.

The Saudi football chief has told Marca: “At the moment we do not know anything about a possible Lionel Messi arrival. Although I do not hide that, as Saudi Federation, we would like to have him one day in the domestic league.

“The idea of the Federation is always to improve our football, and of course we would like to see Cristiano and Messi in the same league again, but the truth is that we don’t know anything now.”
