Manchester City star Rodri has revealed that teammate John Stones avoided picking up a serious injury despite limping off against Brighton in their 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

Defender Stones was taken off six minutes from time as his side were held to a stalemate at the AMEX Stadium, a point that secured Europa League football for Brighton for the first time in their history.

It meant little to Manchester City, who had already sewed up their fifth Premier League title in six years over the weekend when Arsenal lost to Nottingham Forest on Saturday night.

But the biggest concern was a potential injury to Stones, who has been a key man in the renaissance of a Manchester City side that dropped its first points since February on the south coast.

With two finals still to play as they chase a historic treble, they face Manchester United for the FA Cup on June 3rd before taking on Inter Milan in a bid to win their first ever Champions League trophy a week later.

Losing Stones, who has made the inverted fullback spot his own in the second half of the season, would have been a major blow, but both Guardiola and Rodri have moved to ease woes surrounding the centre back.

‘He was tired, he’s not injured but a little risk’, the Spaniard told the media.

Meanwhile, Rodri echoed that sentiment. “No [he’s not injured], he’s fine. He went down to make the substitution, but I asked him and he was pretty good”, the midfielder explained.

With Brentford to come on the final day of the season, Stones may well be rested, but it seems likely that he will be fit for the final two massive games of their campaign.
