Revealed: How much Chelsea are set to sell Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City for

The two sides are closing in on a deal for the midfielder

Chelsea are expected to receive around £35m for Mateo Kovacic when he completes his move to Manchester City this summer, it has been reported.

The Croatian is down to the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are keen to sell rather than risk losing him for free next summer amid financial fair play concerns and with plenty of transfer business of their own to conduct.

A long-term admirer of Kovacic, Pep Guardiola’s side are set to pounce on the situation and personal terms have already been agreed for the 29-year-old to complete a move to the Etihad this summer.

According to the Guardian, it is a deal that will set City back a fee of around £35m, with Kovacic’s arrival potentially speeding up a potential departure for Bernardo Silva, who has long been linked with a move to Barcelona or Paris Saint Germain.

A deal could be completed in the coming days too, with Chelsea in need to sell before 30th June in order to balance their financial fair play records after spending over £500m in the last two transfer windows. They are also in talks to sell Mason Mount to Manchester United and Kai Havertz to Arsenal and it is felt that two of those departures could be enough to cover their debts.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are expected to have a mini-exodus of their own this summer with Riyad Mahrez the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia and both fullbacks Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo likely to leave the club before the new season begins.
