Chelsea will not sell Levi Colwill this summer despite having signed plenty of defenders in the last two transfer windows, despite reports claiming that he could be moved on at the end of the season.

The Blues defender, currently on loan at Brighton, is viewed as an elite talent and enjoyed a strong 2021-22 season in the Championship with Huddersfield Town.

Chelsea chose not to use the sale of the defender in any deal for Marc Cucurella last summer, offering only a loan with the Spaniard making the move the other way for £60m, seemingly set to play in Colwill’s favoured left centre-back position.

In the time since, they have signed Benoit Badiashile and Kalidou Koulibaly, both of whom also favour play on the left of a back three, and in the case of Badiashile is seen as a signing for the future given he is just 22 years old.

So, recent transfer business has understandably raised question marks over the future of Colwill, who has become a regular for Brighton after a slow start, and has gone on to make 10 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls.

But despite his success, and Chelsea’s impending FFP issues this summer, the Blues are determined to keep hold of the defender.

It will hand Chelsea’s defence a promising look, with Colwill (20), Badiashile (22) and Wesley Fofana (22) all set for significant minutes next season should they stay at Stamford Bridge, though they will have to fight it out with the ageless Thiago Silva for a starting berth.
