Manchester United headed into the game looking to win their first trophy under Erik ten Hag and their first piece of silverware since 2017.
Newcastle, meanwhile, were looking to win their first trophy in 69 years.
Man United kicked off the match in the better form of the two sides, mostly recently knocking Barcelona out of the Europa League earlier this week.
As for Newcastle, they have lost just two league games this campaign but they are struggling for wins and have drawn far too many games.
At the time of writing, the score remains locked at 0-0.
Both sides had a lively start to the match, with Newcastle’s pace causing issues for United on the counter.
The Dutchman has now started in all 12 games for Manchester United since he joined the club on loan from Burnley.
However, he has scored just one goal, which came in the semi-final of the League Cup vs Nottingham Forest.
And after a poor start vs the Magpies, Weghorst has come in for heavy criticism online, with just some of the reaction shown below:
