Real Madrid team news and predicted XI vs Liverpool

All the latest from the Spanish capital

Real Madrid come into the second leg of their Champions League tie with Liverpool knowing that they simply need to avoid a heavy defeat to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition and continue their attempts to defend their Champions League trophy from last season.

Los Blancos thrashed Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield in a memorable result in the first leg, coming back from 2-0 down to a pair of goals from both Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior, while Eder Militao chipped in with a goal too.

It means that, in order to progress, all they need to do is avoid defeat by four goals in front of a home crowd, while losing by three exactly would send the tie to extra time and penalties.

Both sides come into the tie in mixed form, with Real Madrid having won just once since they defeated Liverpool, drawing two and losing to Barcelona, while Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 7-0 but lost to the Premier League’s then bottom side Bournemouth at the weekend.

Here’s how we expect Carlo Ancelotti’s side to line up, plus the latest team news from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Predicted XI

Team News

Real Madrid have just the one injury concern from the first leg, with David Alaba having limped out of the tie at Anfield and expected to remain sidelined for the second leg.

Elsewhere, Aurelian Tchouameni has returned after missing the first leg, which will further bolster Los Blancos ranks coming into the tie, and the Frenchman is likely to take his place in the midfield of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
