Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is sensationally suing former club Everton for financial irregularities, two years after leaving the club.
The Italian was a shock appointment for the Toffees back in December 2019, and ushered in what was hoped to be a prosperous time on Merseyside as former Galactico James Rodriguez followed him to Goodison Park.
18 months later, however, Real Madrid came calling and Ancelotti made the switch back to the Spanish capital, leaving Everton with an impressive win percentage of 46% and leading them to a midtable finish, something that they have failed to manage since.
Now, however, he is suing his former side in London’s high court, the Guardian report.
Though little is known about the details of the case, Ancelotti’s lawyers filed a case on Friday that related to “general commercial contracts and arrangements” from his time at Goodison Park, suggesting that some financial irregularities may be involved.
Everton are already under heavy financial pressure, with an investigation having been opened into their potential breaches of the league’s profitability and sustainability guidelines.
It comes amid their attempted move to a new stadium and their current unpopular owners searching for fresh investment in the club, having been forced to stay away from Goodison Park during the latter part of the season over threats to their safety from the Toffees faithful.
Ancelotti’s legal case is yet another thorn in their side, and could set the tone ahead of what could well be a very tricky summer for the Toffees.
