Raphael Varane & Anthony Martial injury updates provided before Spurs

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, on Sunday evening, provided an update on the fitness of sidelined pair Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial.

Liverpool showdown

Solskjaer and co. are of course locked in action at present.

In the marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend, the Red Devils have welcomed arch rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford, eyeing a first league win in four.

And United will no doubt have been buoyed in their hopes of doing exactly that by a much-needed comeback victory in midweek, when the Manchester giants recovered from two goals down to eventually get the better of Serie A outfit Atalanta.

As things stand amid the early exchanges at the Theatre of Dreams, the scoreline remains locked at 0-0.

‘Hopefully…’

The starting XI opted for by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this afternoon piqued widespread attentions ahead of kick-off, with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford – both viewed as doubts to feature – included from the off.

The main talking point came in the middle of the park, though, where the Red Devils opted for a deep-lying pairing of Fred and Scott McTominay, forcing Paul Pogba to make do with a spot on the bench once more:

When his side return to action in a week’s time, however, in another high-profile Premier League outing, this time versus Tottenham, Solskjaer looks set to have some much-needed added options at his disposal.

After being drawn on the wellbeing of sidelined pair Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial ahead of kick-off this evening, the United boss explained that:

‘Hopefully they will be back for maybe next weekend.’
