Pep Guardiola confirms Aymeric Laporte will start for Man City vs Arsenal & outlines plans for Liam Delap

Guardiola on Laporte

Manchester City picked up their first win of the season at the weekend.

The Citizens faced off with newly-promoted Norwich and would absolute smash Daniel Farke’s side.

When the full-time whistle blew, Man City walked away with a staggering 5-0 victory.

The Sky Blues must now turn their attentions to Arsenal, who they face in an early kick-off on Saturday.

And, ahead of the game, Pep Guardiola has already confirmed that Aymeric Laporte will start.

When speaking about rotating his squad post-Norwich, the Spaniard stated that Laporte will be playing the next game, which is Arsenal:

“It’s just to be honest what I see on the pitch, in the training sessions, in the performance.

“I try to rotate the team but at the same time I try to decide…for example now Aymeric Laporte, the game he played today, he’s going to play the next game.

“The guys who played good today are going to play the next game. It is what it is.”

Guardiola confirms Delap plans

Elsewhere, Guardiola would also outline City’s plans for Liam Delap this campaign.

The 18-year-old striker made his senior debut for City last term, notching one goal in three outings.

And whilst some may have now expected Delap to be farmed out on loan to gain first-team experience, Guardiola confirmed recently that he will train with the main squad all season:

“He’s going to train with us if a striker comes or doesn’t come. He’s going to train with us all the season.

“Him and Cole Palmer, [James] McAtee, [Luke] Mbete, Romeo Lavia. There are five or six players who will be with us the whole season, the same way we have done with Tommy Doyle – who is looking forward to being on loan – like Phil [Foden] when he arrived and started to play with us, he played with the second team then played with us.”
