Goalkeepers Keylor Navas and Alphonse Areola have this evening swapped clubs, albeit as part a somewhat unusual transfer.
PSG’s goalkeeper chase
PSG’s chase of reinforcements between the posts had been much talked about this summer, on the back of Gianluigi Buffon’s return to Juventus, and Kevin Trapp’s departure for Eintracht Frankfurt.
To this point, though, over the opening weeks of the campaign, French international Alphonse Areola, who had shared no.1 duties with Buffon last season, had reestablished himself as Thomas Tuchel’s first-choice.
Navas to Paris/Areola to Madrid
Areola’s resurgence, however, was widely-assumed to have only come as a result of PSG failing to secure the signing of a new shot-stopper.
And this train of thought has this evening been all but confirmed, after the Frenchman departed the Parc des Princes, just moments before the capital giants confirmed the arrival of a new no.1
As announced across the social media platforms of both PSG and Spanish giants Real Madrid, Areola has joined the latter on a season-long loan deal:

This announcement, meanwhile, came just minutes before another goalkeeper, in the form of Keylor Navas, swapped the Bernabeu for Paris.
Costa Rican international Navas, though, has penned a 4-year deal at the Parc des Princes:

While Navas is expected to slot straight into PSG’s starting XI, Areola is likely to act as backup to first-choice Thibaut Courtois in Madrid.
