Nuno Santo provides Tanguy Ndombele update after midfielder missed Tottenham’s win over Arsenal

Tottenham see off Arsenal

Tottenham ended their 2021 pre-season schedule with a morale-boosting win over north London rivals Arsenal.

Nuno Espirito Santo, before Sunday, had overseen victories versus MK Dons and Colchester, as well as draws with Leyton Orient and Chelsea in pre-season.

But Heung-min Son’s 79th-minute effort against Arsenal proved enough to ensure that Spurs came away with a 1-0 win in their final outing before the campaign gets underway next week.

Nuno on Tanguy Ndombele

Nuno opted to field a fairly strong starting line-up on Sunday, that included the likes of Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

There were also substitute appearances from the likes of Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Serge Aurier.

One player who played no part for the Lilywhites on Sunday, however, was Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman has now failed to feature in any of Spurs’ pre-season games this summer.

But when quizzed on Ndombele’s absence post-Arsenal, Nuno Espirito Santo gave little away.

He confirmed that the midfielder is fit, with the actual reason for Ndombele continuing to miss out, as a result, still unclear:

“Tanguy was not with us today. He’s not injured but we considered it’s not the moment for him to take part in the game.”
