Mikel Arteta sends clear transfer message to Arsenal owners

Mikel Arteta has sent a message to Arsenal’s owners.

Arsenal shocked the Premier League this season by spending the majority of the campaign top of the table.

Granted, their title charge fell off a cliff in April and Manchester City are now expected to clinch their 5th league title in six years.

And whilst Arsenal gave City a good battle this season, it is clear that they must continue to invest in their young squad in order to cement themselves as a side who can challenge for the league title every season.

The Gunners spent £114.5m last summer, which was the least amount of any top-six side with Newcastle added to the list as well.

Compared to Chelsea it was less than half their total and it was nearly doubled by Newcastle as well. Arsenal’s spending has come in previous seasons where Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale joined the club for over £80m combined but their other deals were conducted for less money.

So if Arsenal want to truly become a rival of the Sky Blues, they must continue to spend a lot each summer.

“We have to compete with those teams,” Arteta stated. “That’s for sure because we are Arsenal football club. The demands are to be the best in everything that we do so we have to find a way to do that.”
