Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has warned the Manchester United hierarchy that the club ‘have to keep’ Marcus Rashford as conversations over his new contract continue at Old Trafford.
Rashford has been arguably the most in-form attacker since the World Cup ended across Europe, with the 26-year-old firing in 8 goals in nine Premier League games, as well as registering an assist.
In fact, since the break, he has only not contributed a goal or an assist in two games across all competitions, with 19 goal contributions in 16 games across that period.
But as it stands the 26-year-old is out of contract in 2024, and contract negotiations are ongoing, though they have shown no sign of a breakthrough at present.
Ten Hag has moved to soothe concerns in the United fanbase over the possibility of the forward leaving Old Trafford any time soon however, claiming that the new deal is a ‘priority’ and that the club are working on it.
“Rashford’s new deal is a priority”, he began. “We are working on it, in the background we’re working hard. We have to keep Marcus, of course”.
The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for an attacker this summer, but that is to replace Wout Weghorst rather than Rashford, with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos both linked with a move to Manchester.
Having cemented his place on the left side of attack after years of uncertainty, Rashford is finally beginning to realise his enormous potential, and will have a massive role to play in trying to win silverware in Ten Hag’s first season in charge, beginning with the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
