Manchester United 3-0 Charlton: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction & more

Manchester United and Charlton clashed in the quarter-finals of the 2022/23 League Cup on Tuesday evening.

Manchester United headed into the game as the clear favourites to win.

Erik ten Hag was also expected to make a number of changes for this game as United have a Manchester derby on the horizon this weekend.

And whilst the did do that, Manchester United were still able to progress to the semi-finals vs Charlton.

Manchester United started off on the front foot and had a good chance eight minutes in. Harry Maguire picked out Alejandro Garnacho with a diagonal pass. Garnacho then beat his marker and shot but fired just over.

The Red Devils then took the lead after 21 minutes with Antony curling in a superb effort from the edge of the box.

United came close to a second goal after 38 minutes when Fred’s free-kick smashed off the post, but they could not find a second before the break.

This was followed by Garnacho’s curling effort forcing a good save out of the Charlton keeper.

Substitute Marcus Rashford got the second and third goals of the game 90 and 94 minutes in to ensure United’s spot in the next round.
