Man City vs Crystal Palace prediction: Man City 4-0 Crystal Palace

Are Manchester City back to their best?

The Citizens have been beating everybody in their path in recent weeks.

Will that trend continue here?

Crystal Palace though have won at the Emirates, Anfield, Old Trafford and the Etihad in recent seasons.

They won 3-2 at Manchester City on their last visit to Eastlands so can they cause another upset in this one?

Sergio Agüero broke two records with his hat-trick last weekend. The Argentine is 2/1 to open the scoring and 4/11 to add to his tally.

Riyad Mahrez has also been in fantastic form. Mahrez is 4/1 to score first and 21/20 to score yet again.

Jordan Ayew meanwhile is Palace’s top scorer. He is 14/1 to break the deadlock and 4/1 to net anytime.

Wilfried Zaha will, as ever, be a threat. He is 22/1 to score first and 6/1 to score anytime.

Both Mahrez and Agüero to score is 2/1.

It may be too late to salvage their title, but Manchester City’s form is looking ominous.

Last weekend, a brace from Riyad Mahrez, a hat-trick from Sergio Agüero and a goal for Gabriel Jesus too saw the Citizens demolish Aston Villa 6-1 in Birmingham.

That is the 27th time they have scored five goals or more in a match under Pep Guardiola.

Overall, they’ve won six of their last eight league games but, five defeats so far, means they are still 14 points behind Liverpool who also have a game in hand.

Aside from the league, they’ve got one foot in the Carabao Cup Final after winning 3-1 at Old Trafford in their semi-final first leg.

Also in recent weeks they’ve cruised through to the fourth round of the FA Cup by easily beating Port Vale 4-1.

That means the champions have already scored 15 goals in four matches in 2020.

Realistically though, everything is geared towards the Champions League.

They take on Real Madrid in the round of 16, at the Bernabéu on 26 February and then at home on 17 March.

It may matter little in terms of the table but they’ll be looking to win every game between now and then and beyond.

They’ve actually only won two of their last four meetings with Crystal Palace so will they avoid a potential banana skin?

Can Crystal Palace cause a huge shock?

As for Crystal Palace, they are slowly edging towards safety.

Last weekend, Jordan Ayew’s effort took not one but two deflections as they held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.

The Ghanaian is the first Crystal Palace player to score home and away against Arsenal in a season since John Craven in 1971/72.

That means the Eagles have lost only one of their last nine Premier League games, winning only three of those.

Roy Hodgson’s side are certainly hard to beat and this is reflected by the fact they are ninth in the table with seven wins, eight draws and seven loses.

If they finished anywhere near there, particularly the Palace hierarchy, would be delighted with that.

On Tuesday they welcome Southampton to South London.

That is a much more winnable game but, having won up there last season, they’ll head to the Etihad with a bit of hope.

Crystal Palace are known for beating the big boys, so can they do it once again?

Given that Pep Guardiola’s squad is almost fully fit, it’s very hard to predict who he’ll pick in his XI.

Ederson will continue in goal, looking for only his second league clean sheet since 26 October.

In defence, John Stones returned at Villa Park last weekend.

He’s likely to keep his place in the side, alongside Fernandinho, with Nicolás Otamendi remaining on the bench.

At full-back, Kyle Walker could take João Cancelo’s place on the right with Benjamin Mendy continuing on the other side.

In midfield, İlkay Gündoğan could also return with Rodri back on the bench.

Further forward, Kevin De Bruyne has already registered 17 assists in all competitions this season.

Also, KDB has had a hand in eight goals in his last eight Premier League appearances against Crystal Palace.

David Silva, who scored at Selhurst Park in October, could continue alongside him.

Further forward, Riyda Mahrez has become undroppable.

The Algerian has 21 goals and 22 assists in all club competitions since the start of last season; he is the only Premier League player to have scored and assisted over 20 goals over this period.

Gabriel Jesus started for Manchester City for the 76th time at Villa Park.

In these matches he has directly contributed to 71 goals, scoring 54 times and assisting a further 17.

However, he could be back amongst the substitutes with Raheem Sterling back in the team

One man who will definitely keep his place is Sergio Agüero.

He has scored more hat-tricks than any other player in Premier League history (12) and is now the highest scoring overseas player in the history of the league.

If this is the XI, Jesus will join Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva on a star-studded subs bench.

This side should blow Crystal Palace away.

As for Crystal Palace, their recent form is even more remarkable given the sheer number of injuries Roy Hodgson has had to contend with.

Despite the fact his first managerial role came at Halmstads in 1976, Hodgson says this is the worst injury crisis he’s ever seen.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has made 59 saves so far this season in the Premier League but that figure could rise significantly here.

In defence, Joel Ward, Scott Dann, Mamadou Sakho, Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick van Aanholt are all injured.

So, they’ll essentially name the same back four as last week because they have no alternatives.

Martin Kelly, Gary Cahill and Tames Tomkins will all start with Jaïro Riedewald filling in at left-back.

In midfield, captain Luka Milivojević is serving the second of his three-match ban.

So, Cheikhou Kouyaté will continue alongside James McArthur and James McCarthy.

Further forward is where they do have options.

With no Andros Townsend, Max Meyer and Wilfried Zaha will continue on the flanks.

Up front, top scorer Jordan Ayew will keep his place but they do have Connor Wickham and new signing Cenk Tosun to choose from.

Can this side cause another shock at the Etihad?

It seems unlikely.
