Manchester City targeting £220m summer shake up amid contract uncertainties

Pep Guardiola’s side are set to refresh their squad this summer

Manchester City are plotting a major reschuffle in the summer transfer window as they look to recover from a stuttering season this campaign by their own lofty standards.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been poor by their own title-winning form, and currently sit 5 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal with the Gunners having a game in hand on the current Premier League champions.

Though the arrival of Erling Haaland has guaranteed goals, the Norwegian has netted 25 times in 19 games, the Cityzens look a shadow of their former imperious self. And the surprise departure of Joao Cancelo on loan in the dying hours of the January transfer window is not set to be the only departure this summer.

As per the Daily Mail, Bernardo Silva could finally leave the club after flirting with the idea for several years, while Ilkay Gundogan is also out of contract this summer as things stand.

And, they claim that English duo James Maddison and Jude Bellingham are both potential summer targets, with both set to be on the market in the next transfer window.

Maddison, who is out of contract in 2024, has also been the subject of interest from Newcastle, while Manchester City would have to fight off both Liverpool and Real Madrid for Bellingham’s signature should Dortmund’s 150m euro asking price be met.

However, Leao’s contract may be a major stumbling block. Though he is only set to remain in Milan until 2024 as it stands, both the player and the club have refuted allegations that talks over a new deal have stalled.

“There are many fake informations on Leão. We are working together to find a satisfactory solution on the new contract”, Leao’s agent explained.

“Leão’s priority has not changed: he wants to stay at AC Milan”, he continued.

Despite this, it appears clear that Manchester City are set for a major overhaul this summer, with cover at fullback also required should Cancelo’s loan move be made permanent.
