Liverpool’s priority summer target revealed

A fresh insight into the transfer plans of Premier League giants Liverpool with a view to next season has been provided on Thursday.

And it should come as little surprise to hear of the Reds eyeing reinforcements in one area of the pitch in particular.

The position in question? Midfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s options in the middle of the park, of course, have long represented something of a contentious subject amongst those of a Liverpool persuasion.

This comes amid the collective agreement that the powers that be at Anfield have time and time again come up short in efforts to supply the club’s head coach with a crop of midfielders capable of competing with the best the continent has to offer.

Add to this the alarming dip in form suffered by Fabinho of late, and Thiago Alcantara’s ongoing fitness woes, and the situation becomes an even more pressing one.

With all of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner expected to depart next summer, it is therefore not an exaggeration to suggest that Liverpool will require something close to an overhaul in midfield with a view to next season.

And now, as alluded to above, the identity of the Reds’ priority target has been revealed.

The player in question? Jude Bellingham.

As per the reliable James Pearce of The Athletic, the transfer team on Merseyside are ready to focus all of their efforts on clinching a deal for Borussia Dortmund sensation Bellingham in 2023.

Liverpool will head into the saga, though, aware that they face a fight, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United all understood to be keen on the England international, too.
