Lionel Messi left out of PSG squad for French Cup clash

An explanation for the absence of star attacker Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain’s latest squad has been provided late on Sunday evening.

For those not aware, PSG are set to mark their return to action on Monday night.

After slipping to a concerning defeat at the hands of Stade Rennais in their most recent Ligue 1 fixture, Christophe Galtier’s troops will turn their attentions towards matters in the French Cup, by way of a meeting with minnows Pays de Cassel.

The capital heavyweights made short work of Chateauroux in the competition’s last round, and will be hoping for a similarly straightforward triumph this time round.

As alluded to above, though, such efforts on PSG’s part will come sans the services of a key member of Galtier’s squad.

The player in question? Lionel Messi.

Murmurs, in turn, quickly spread regarding a potential injury suffered by the recent World Cup winner.

Such fears, however, have since been quelled.

This comes with confirmation having arrived that Messi, in fact, has simply been afforded the night off on Monday, to catch up on rest.
