Karim Benzema bags Real Madrid award after Champions League heroics

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has, on Friday, secured his latest altogether deserved individual accolade.

The prize in question? Los Blancos' Player of the Month.

French hitman Benzema, the current frontrunner for this year's Ballon d'Or, kept alive and well his scintillating stretch of form in front of goal across April.

In a total of eight outings across all competitions, the 34-year-old racked up a whopping ten goals, four of which came en route to sending reigning champions Chelsea packing from the Champions League.

Even more significant, though, was Benzema's semi-final first-leg brace against Manchester City, which ultimately set the stage for the hitman to notch an extra-time winner from the penalty spot, to book Los Merengues' spot in yet another European finale.

'Benz', in turn, has beaten out competition from the likes of Vinicius Jr, Luka Modric and Rodrygo to bag the club's latest POTM award:

Derby day awaits

Turning attentions back towards the road ahead, Real and Benzema will of course be back in action this coming weekend.

A derby showdown with Atletico Madrid lies in wait at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday evening, albeit with Carlo Ancelotti's troops, in truth, having little to play for when it comes to league position.

This comes after Los Blancos were officially crowned La Liga champions for the 35th time owing to a 4-0 downing of Espanyol last time out.
