Harry Kane sent message by Hugo Lloris after penalty miss in England defeat to France

England and France clashed in the quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup on Saturday evening.

England dominated the game and were the better side across the 90 minutes.

However, two moments of brilliance from France, some awful refereeing and Harry Kane missing a penalty saw England fall to a 2-1 defeat and they are now set to head home whilst France meet Morocco in the semi-final.

Following the game, France and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has sent a message to Harry Kane:

“I want to be honest with you, with all the emotions, it’s a big match, it was a key moment,” said Lloris. “The man that I am have to be honest, we are team-mates, I respect him a lot.

“Kane took the responsibility at a key moment in the match. Fortunately for the French team he missed. I know he is strong and he may not think about it for too long. I can share this moment of pain with him. I didn’t speak to Harry after the match.”

France boss Diddier Deschamps also spoke after the match about how his side got lucky:
