Former Man United star the latest to heap praise on Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech

Rio Ferdinand last night revealed his admiration for the talents of Hakim Ziyech, as the incoming Chelsea man prepares to get his career underway with the Blues.

Ziyech joins Chelsea

Moroccan attacker Ziyech’s surprise move from Ajax to Stamford Bridge was confirmed earlier this year.

In something of a bolt-from-the-blue, just weeks after the close of the winter transfer window, Chelsea announced that they had struck a €40 million deal for the gifted 27-year-old.

‘Magnificent’

Ziyech has since linked up with the rest of Frank Lampard’s squad, ahead of getting his Chelsea career underway in the fast-approaching 2020/21 campaign.

The north African was therefore no doubt watching intently as his new teammates were ousted from the Champions League last night, at the hands of Bayern Munich.

A 4-1 defeat at the Allianz Arena saw Chelsea outclassed in every facet of the game, culminating in a hugely disappointing 7-1 aggregate result.

One individual who is evidently of the opinion that Ziyech, who has of course since been joined at Stamford Bridge by Timo Werner, will go at least some way towards beginning to bridge the gap between the Blues and Europe’s elite next season, though, is Rio Ferdinand.

Speaking on BT Sport on the back of Chelsea’s Champions League exit last night, the former Manchester United star was full of praise for Ziyech, highlighting the versatile attacker’s ‘guile’, whilst also drawing comparisons with Man City wide-man Riyad Mahrez:

‘We watched Ziyech last season for Ajax, he was magnificent.’

‘He reminds me a little bit of [Riyad] Mahrez but he crosses the ball a little bit more.’

‘He’s someone who’s really always trying to find a way to unlock defences with his delivery. A lot of guile.’
