Former Barcelona boss in talks to replace Luciano Spalletti at Napoli

A fresh insight into the managerial situation at Serie A giants Napoli has, on Saturday evening, been forthcoming.

For those not aware, the subject of the bench at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Italy over the course of the last week.

This comes on the back of shock reports coming to the fore that, fresh off guiding Napoli to a first Scudetto title in over three decades, Luciano Spalletti was giving serious consideration to bringing an end to his stint in charge of the Partenopei.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday night is anything to go by, then such a development now appears to be inching ever closer.

This comes amid claims that Napoli have opened discussions with a potential successor to their current headmaster.

The tactician in question? Luis Enrique.

‘The Asturian coach is in talks with Napoli to succeed Spalletti. There are real contacts between both parties.’

Enrique, out of work since leaving his post as Spanish national team boss back in December, is understood to be the first-choice target of Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Talks between the parties, in turn, are set to continue over the days ahead.
