McTominay cleared for Napoli return following heart procedure

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has received the green light to resume competitive football after undergoing a successful procedure to correct a heart arrhythmia.

The 29-year-old Scotland international underwent a planned procedure at Manchester’s Spire Hospital in September after medical assessments identified a mild, benign arrhythmia.

Following comprehensive follow-up testing, the Italian outfit confirmed on Wednesday that McTominay has been cleared to return to full sporting activity.

“Scott McTominay underwent further diagnostic tests, which showed that he is fit to play,” Napoli said in an statement.

“The Napoli player therefore resumed training with the rest of the team after the period spent training separately.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been sidelined since August, missing several key fixtures during his recovery. In his absence, Napoli suffered a 3-2 Serie A defeat against reigning champions Inter Milan and fell to a loss against Arsenal in the Champions League.

His return provides a timely selection boost for manager Massimiliano Allegri, with the Partenopei currently sitting ninth in the Serie A standings.

McTominay should be available for selection when Napoli host sixth-placed Frosinone on Saturday.
