Explanation provided for clouds of smoke spreading over Champions League final venue

An explanation for the clouds of smoke spreading over the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul has been provided late on Saturday evening.

For those not aware, the Ataturk is set to act as the host venue for world football’s biggest club fixture in a matter of hours.

This, of course, comes in the form of the Champions League final, when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City go head-to-head with Italian giants Inter Milan, with a historic treble on the line.

In turn, it has no doubt come as a source of concern for those in attendance in Turkey’s capital to see dark clouds of smoke making their way to the stadium:

Initially, it was altogether unclear where exactly the smoke had originated, sparking fears of tonight’s fixture being postponed for safety reasons.

As alluded to above, though, a short time ago, an update on the situation was forthcoming.

The building in question is understood to be some distance from the Ataturk, however, with authorities now on the scene in an attempt to get the blaze under control.
