Everton appoint Luis Boa Morte as assistant manager

Everton appoint former Fulham ace

Everton have confirmed that former Fulham star Luis Boa Morte will be Marco Silva’s assistant next season after João Pedro Sousa left the Toffees.

Everton have moved quickly after Sousa decided to leave Goodison Park.

The former number two recently took up the managerial position at Famalicão in his homeland of Portugal.

That left Marco Silva looking for a new number two and it looks as though Everton have already found their man.

A summer of change at Goodison Park

That is because the Toffees have announced the arrival of former Arsenal, Fulham and Aston Villa star Luis Boa Morte as their new assistant boss.

Boa Morte joins after a spell in the same capacity with Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa.

Before that, the former Premier League veteran managed several youth teams in Portugal.

Now, he’s excited to join Everton and is already looking forward to pre-season.

“I’m very happy to be joining Everton, a big club with so much history and tradition,” he explained, as quoted on the official Everton website.

“I’m excited to be working again with the manager, Marco Silva, who is a great coach and I would like to thank him for providing me with such a big opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the players and staff at the Club when we return for pre-season training next month and start the preparations for the 2019/20 Premier League season.”

Everton release Ashley Williams & Phil Jagielka

Boa Morte’s appointment isn’t the only news Everton have announced today.

The Toffees released their retained list and confirmed the departures of both Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka.

Their contracts are set to expire shortly and both will be available on free transfers.
