Cristiano Ronaldo earns more in one day than the England women’s team will receive in bonuses following their Euro 2022 triumph, it has been reported.
England faced off with bitter rivals Germany in the final of the Women’s European Championship.
The Three Lionesses do not have the best record against the Germans in competitive action, so a tough match was expected.
However, England took the lead after 62 minutes via Ella Toone, before Germany drew level with 11 minutes to go.
The two sides could not be separated in normal time, with a 110th-minute strike from Chloe Kelly in extra time needed to hand England a historic win.
After England secured their first European Championship, an interesting stat has come to light regarding pay.
It has been reported that the Lionesses will get £55,000 each for winning Euro 2022, which so happens to be the same amount that Cristiano Ronaldo earns in a single day for Manchester United.
Ronaldo is reported to earn £385,000 a week, which works out at £55,000 per day.
In total, the prize money on offer at the Women’s Euros this year was £13.5m - double that of the 2017 tournament and the highest ever for the competition.
England will receive a total of around £1.9m for winning the competition, however, that pales in comparison to the money picked up at Euro 2020 last year by the men’s team.
Gareth Southgate’s team each earned £300,000 for reaching the final at Wembley and would have pocketed £460,000 for winning.
