Chelsea vs Newcastle United betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle

Chelsea are building some momentum under Frank Lampard.

It’s now four wins in a row across three competitions for the Blues who are starting to silence early season doubters.

As for Newcastle, they pulled off a famous victory a fortnight ago but are still very much in danger near the foot of the table.

This should be a home win at Stamford Bridge but Newcastle have proven themselves capable of an upset this season.

Chelsea are overwhelming favourites at 2/7 to claim victory in this one.

Tammy Abraham is the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with eight goals. He is 23/10 to open the scoring and 4/6 to score anytime.

Callum Hudson-Odoi netted a brace for England U21s on Tuesday night. He is 11/2 to score first and 15/8 to score first Chelsea for the first time this season.

Joelinton will lead the line for Newcastle. The Brazilian is 10/1 to score first and 7/2 to add to his tally.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea might just be the real deal after all.

Last time out, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kanté and Michy Batshuayi all got on the scoresheet in a resounding 4-1 win down at Southampton.

The Blues have become just the third side to score three or more first half goals in consecutive Premier League away games, after Manchester United in 1993/94 and Tottenham Hotspur last season.

Scoring goals was never the issue for this side though but, they appear to have now tightened things up at the back.

That victory at St Mary’s was their fourth in a row in all competitions, following a 7-1 win over Grimsby, a 2-0 victory over Brighton and a 2-1 success in Lille.

In the Premier League, Chelsea are fifth, just two points behind second-placed Manchester City.

After this, they face Burnley, Watford and Crystal Palace before a trip to the Etihad on November 23rd.

Thus, this is a great opportunity for them to rack up some wins, starting here.

Can Newcastle pull off another shock result?

As for Newcastle, St James’ Park witnessed one of those special days a fortnight ago as they hosted Manchester United.

With what was their first shot on target, Matty Longstaff became the youngest player to score on their Premier League debut for Newcastle, aged 19 years and 199 days.

That sumptuous strike from the local-lad was enough to seal a 1-0 win.

That match marked Steve Bruce’s 400th as a Premier League manager but that was his first win over Manchester United at the 23rd attempt.

More importantly, it lifted the Magpies onto eight points and out of the relegation zone.

Just the week before, Newcastle were smashed 5-0 by Leicester so a win over Man United my just be papering over the cracks.

However, their only other win so far this campaign came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August.

Steve Bruce is far from the most popular man on Tyneside but, a win at Stamford Bridge, can’t do his reputation any harm.

Will the Toon Army be celebrating a fourth victory of 2019 over one of last season’s top six?

In recent weeks, Frank Lampard has been switching between a back four and a back three.

He opted for the former at St Mary’s and is expected to stick with it in a home game in which Chelsea are not going to need three centre-backs against Newcastle’s one centre-forward.

As always, Kepa Arrizabalaga will be in goal.

In defence, Andreas Christensen is likely to come back in for Kurt Zouma partnering Fikayo Tomori.

Antonio Rüdiger could be back available for selection in the next week or so.

There could also be a change at right-back with Reece James, potentially, preferred to club captain César Azpilicueta.

On the other side, Marcos Alonso has been seizing his opportunity with Emerson Palmieri out injured.

Since joining Chelsea in 2016, Alonso has been directly involved in 26 goals in 100 Premier League games, registering 15 goals and 11 assists.

That is the most of any defender in that time period.

In midfield, N’Golo Kanté pulled out of France’s qualifier with Iceland after getting injured in the warm-up.

Mateo Kovačić could also be out after he hobbled off in Cardiff on Sunday during Wales’ draw with Croatia.

So, it’s likely to be Jorginho in midfield along with Ross Barkley and Mason Mount.

Out-wide, Callum Hudson-Odoi is back and will start on the left with Willian getting the nod over Pedro on the other side.

Up front, Tammy Abraham has now scored nine goals in all competitions this season, the joint-most of any Premier League player in 2019/20

Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score at Southampton meaning that seven of his eight league goals for the club have been as a substitute.

The Belgian will be back amongst the subs for this one too.

This side should be far too strong for Newcastle.

As for Newcastle United, same again after beating Manchester United.

Their game-plan will surely be similar to when they won at Tottenham in August.

Sit-back and contain.

Martin Dúbravka has three clean sheets so far in the Premier League which is, surprisingly, the joint-most.

In defence, it’s fair to say it’ll be more of a back five than a back three.

Emil Krafth could come in for DeAndre Yedlin at right-back.

The latter was playing for USA as recently as Tuesday night in their shock CONCACAF Nations League defeat in Canada.

Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schär and Jamaal Lascelles will be the three centre-backs with Florian Lejeune still injured.

Jetro Willems will continue at left-back asMatt Ritchie had surgery over the international break.

In midfield will be the two Longstaff brothers, Sean and Matty.

Last weekend, the latter became the second youngest player to score a Premier League winning goal against Manchester United, only older than Jermain Defoe.

As for Sean, this’ll be only his 16th Premier League appearance but he has now become the senior man in midfield.

The rise of these two means Ki Sung-yueng and Jonjo Shelvey will be left out; Isaac Hayden is serving the second match of his three-game ban.

Out-wide Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin will be looking to support the lonely front man.

Neither have ever scored a goal for Newcastle just yet.

Joelinton though has scored for the Magpies.

Although he only has one goal so far for the Toon Army, it was the winner at Tottenham.

Can this side defeat another of the Premier League’s big sides?
