Chelsea are keen to strengthen at left-back in January and are eyeing up Milan pair Theo Hernandez (AC) and Federico Dimarco (Inter) in a bid to do so, according to reports.
Ben Chilwell is seemingly Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice option but he has found himself playing on the left-wing in recent weeks, with Levi Colwill in behind him.
Perhaps more worryingly, the ex-Leicester City man continues to be dogged with injury, and picked up yet another hamstring issue in the 1-0 win over Brighton, which saw Chelsea end the Carabao Cup third-round tie with ten men.
Behind him, options are limited. Marc Cucurella has been a disaster since his arrival from Brighton in 2022 and was seemingly deemed surplus to requirements over the summer, though no move was forthcoming.
Meanwhile, talented youngster Ian Maatsen had a £31m bid from Burnley accepted by the Blues, only to turn down the opportunity to leave, while fellow Cobham talent Lewis Hall did take the chance to jump ship and headed to Newcastle United over the summer.
Clearly there is uncertainty over the position and as per Italian outlet CalcioMercato, the Blues are ready to put their hands in their pocket once more to end that.
To do this, they report that Chelsea are eyeing up both Hernandez and DiMarco, with the pair among the standout stars for their respective sides.
Though both players are under contract until 2026, that is not thought to be putting off the Blues, with a new left-back to challenge Chilwell high on their wishlist and DiMarco also being eyed up by Manchester City.
However it is added that ‘a super offer’ would be needed to tempt either player out of their current sides.
