Brighton’s Evan Ferguson matched a Cesc Fabregas Premier League record with hat-trick vs Newcastle

Brighton & Hove Albion starlet Evan Ferguson secured for himself a head-turning piece of history en route to the Seagulls’ downing of Newcastle United on Saturday.

For those who may have missed it, Brighton were back in action a short time ago.

Eyeing a third win from four to start the campaign, Roberto De Zerbi’s troops welcomed the aforementioned Newcastle to the Amex, for a highly-anticipated Premier League clash.

And, when all was said and done, march on to another three-point haul is precisely what the day’s hosts managed.

This came courtesy of a Ferguson-inspired 3-1 triumph, which saw the Republic of Ireland international enjoy an afternoon to remember, en route to a hat-trick.

After slotting home his first on the rebound, the young hitman was back at it again midway through the 2nd-half, on this occasion bending home a sumptuous effort from 25 yards:

And he had the help of a deflection to thank for his and Brighton’s 3rd, rounding out a wonderful day’s work on the 70-minute mark.

With Ferguson still just 18 years of age, it should, in turn, come as little surprise to hear that his treble against Newcastle came as a noteworthy one when it comes to the history books of English football.

As revealed by Sky Sports, only three players have ever managed a Premier League hat-trick at a younger age than the Irishman:

Not only that, but, with his opener on Saturday, Ferguson joined Arsenal icon Cesc Fabregas as just the 2nd non-English player to rack up 10 Premier League goal involvements by the age of 18:
