Ben Chilwell to inform Leicester he wants to leave for Chelsea – Mirror

A fresh update concerning the links between Chelsea and Ben Chilwell has emerged online this week.

Leicester standout

Chilwell, 23, has been a mainstay in Leicester’s backline for a number of seasons now.

The full-back has, in total, notched 123 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes.

Across these outings, Chilwell has scored four and provided twelve assists.

Chilwell has also, despite having not yet hit his prime, already cemented himself as one of the top left-backs currently plying their trade in the English game.

The 11-time capped international is superb at both ends of the pitch, with his recent absence due to injury having clearly affected Leicester, who won just one of their last five league fixtures – all of which Chilwell missed.

Chilwell eyeing Chelsea

But if recent speculation in the media proves true, it looks as though Brendan Rodgers and co. will soon be forced to get used to playing without their star left-back.

Chilwell has been linked with Chelsea for several months now, with Frank Lampard’s side clearly in need of reinforcements at left-back.

Marcos Alonso and Emerson are simply not up to scratch, with an ageing, out of position Cesar Azpilicueta having stood as the club’s best left-back this season.

This, of course, makes Chilwell an understandable target.

And in news which will no doubt please fans of the Blues, it seems as though Chilwell is also keen to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

The Mirror report that Chilwell, who is currently tied down at the King Power until 2024, plans to inform Leicester this week that he wants to leave the club for Chelsea.

No potential fee is mentioned in the piece, but given his age, ability, length of contract and the fact that he is English, one would imagine that the Foxes will demand a premium sum for Chilwell.

One report previously suggested that the defender is rated at more than £40m by Leicester.

Chilwell wants Champions League

One deciding factor in Chilwell’s alleged decision to seek out a move to Chelsea could be the fact that his current club missed out on Champions League football for next season, whilst the Londoners did not.

According to the latest edition of the Transfer Window Podcast, Chilwell is determined to join a club with Champions League football:

Chilwell despite the fact that Leicester City have made Europa League is more than ever determined to join a Champions League club.
