Can Aston Villa now kick-start their season?

Last time out, they travelled to face fellow newly-promoted side Norwich City away from home.

It could hardly have gone any better.

Wesley had a brace after just half an hour before missing the chance to complete a first half hat-trick from the penalty spot.

However, it didn’t matter; Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and Douglas Luiz all scored in the second half in a 5-1 rout.

That was the first time Villa have scored five goals or more in an away Premier League match since April 2008.

More importantly, it ended a run of four games without a win and was just their second victory since promotion in May.

Dean Smith’s men are up to 15th but are only one point above the relegation zone.

If they are to survive, Villa Park is surely going to have to be a fortress, so can they secure back-to-back top-flight wins for the first time since May 2015?

Can Brighton get a rare away win?

As for Brighton, their victory a fortnight ago was even more eye-catching.

Tottenham Hotspur were the visitors to the Amex and the day could hardly have gone any better for the home side.

With just two and a half minutes on the clock, Neal Maupay tapped in from close-range; Brighton’s fastest-ever Premier League goal.

Then began the Aaron Connolly show.

Just after the half hour mark, he saw his flicked effort saved before pouncing to tap home the rebound.

His first ever Premier League goal.

Mid-way through the second half, Connolly raced through and curled home his second and Brighton’s third.

3-0 it finished; Brighton’s biggest Premier League win since February 2018 and joint-biggest of all time.

In the context of this season it was their first success since the opening day and it means they have nine points, one more than their hosts.

Nevertheless, Brighton have only won six of 42 Premier League away games, something that has always been a problem for them.

Will Graham Potter’s side leave the Midlands with three points?

After an outstanding win and performance in Norfolk, Dean Smith is expected to name an unchanged line-up.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton did pull out of the England squad but is expected to be fit for this one.

A teammate of his was involved with England though, Tyrone Mings.

After an outstanding 2019 with Aston Villa, he made his debut in the infamous 6-0 win in Bulgaria on Monday.

This season, Mings has the most blocks in the Premier League, the second most clearances and ranks fourth for headed clearances.

He’s expected to be busy again in this one alongside Björn Engels; the pair have started every match together.

The full-backs though have changed since the start of the campaign.

Ahmed Elmohamady and Neil Taylor began the season as first choice but have since been surpassed by Frédéric Guilbert and Matt Targett respectively.

Marvelous Nakamba and Conor Hourihane will be in midfield, supporting John McGinn.

The latter has now scored seven goals this season for club and country after his first ever career hat-trick last weekend in Scotland’s 6-0 win over San Marino.

This midfield reshuffle has meant that Jack Grealish has been farmed out to the left wing.

It also means there is only one place for an out-and-out winger in the side and that’ll continue to be Anwar El Ghazi.

Jota and Trézéguet will be left in reserve.

Up front, as always, will be Wesley.

He’s scored four Premier League goals this season so can he add to his tally here?

Will Villa Park be rocking and celebrating a home victory?

As for Brighton, they lined-up with a back three for their first six games of the season.

However, last time out against Tottenham, they switched to a 4-2-2-2 and, as it worked a treat, they’re likely to go with that again.

As ever, Mat Ryan will be in goal.

He played for Australia in World Cup qualifiers in Canberra and then in Kaohsiung last week so has travelled more than most over the international break.

In defence, despite two impressive performances for the Republic of Ireland, Shane Duffy is likely to be left out again.

Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster are the first-choice centre-backs with Dan Burn pushed out to left-back.

In midfield, Steven Alzate and Dale Stephens will be the deeper pairing with Pascal Groß and Aaron Mooy further forward.

Davy Pröpper, Yves Bissouma and Tudor Băluță will be left out.

Leandro Trossard could be back from injury but would only be a substitute at most.

Up front, Brighton appear to have finally found a pair strikers who regularly score goals and aren’t Glenn Murray.

Neal Maupay’s opener last weekend was his third of the season.

Aaron Connolly meanwhile became the first Irish teenager to score a Premier League brace since Robbie Keane 20 years ago.

Also, he was was the 100th player from the Republic of Ireland to score a Premier League goal, making them only the fourth nation to have 100+ different goal-scorers.

Can the man of the moment lead the Seagulls to an away day victory?
