But before the group stage begins, Aston Villa must see off Scottish side Hibernian over two play-off legs, the first of which took place at Easter Road last Wednesday.

Emi Martinez has a calf problem but could be fit to start this week.

Emi Buendia (knee) is expected to miss the majority of the 2023/24 season alongside side centre-back, Tyrone Mings (knee).

Jacob Ramsey has an ankle issue and is not expected back until September 16, whilst Leander Dendoncker is also expected to be out until that date with a muscle issue.

Philippe Coutinho has a thigh problem and will be sidelined until next month.

Alex Moreno has a thigh injury which will keep him out until September 3.

And finally, Timothy Iroegbunam (unspecified) is out with no return date set.
