Arsenal vs Southampton betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Arsenal vs Southampton prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Southampton

Southampton have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches, while Arsenal’s form is not much better. They are without a win in five in all competitions.

The Gunners know that three points is a must if they are to keep pace with the top four pack.

Southampton will remain in the relegation zone, even if they pick up all three points on Saturday – thanks to the worst goal difference in the league (-18).

Both managers have near-fully fit squads to choose from.

Arsenal vs Southampton: Who will win?

Arsenal are 9/20 favourites to win while a Southampton win is priced at 11/2. The draw can be backed at 15/4.

Southampton are leaking goals at the moment, conceding 16 in their last four matches. Arsenal are 11/8 to score three or more goals

Arsenal have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven matches. Back both teams to score at 4/6.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been feeding off scraps lately, which is why he has only scored one goal in his last six club appearances.

The Gabonese striker will fancy a return to form against Saturday’s opposition. Aubameyang is 9/4 to open the scoring and 1/2 to score anytime.

Arsenal vs Southampton Premier League match preview

Premier League action returns on Saturday as Arsenal host Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

Prior to the international break, Arsenal suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat at Leicester in a game which clearly demonstrated the real gap between the two sides.

Many of the Arsenal faithful had already given up on Unai Emery and their last five results have done little to change their minds.

Arsenal begin the weekend in sixth place on 17 points, behind Sheffield United on goal difference. The Gunners are incredibly eight points off the top four.

Despite their general poor form, Arsenal are still unbeaten in their last seven at the Emirates. Their last home match ended in a 1-1 draw against Wolves, with Aubameyang opening the scoring.

Southampton will be looking to put an end to a run of four straight defeats – a run which began with their 9-0 home defeat to Leicester.

The Saints are 19th in the table following their 2-1 defeat at home to Everton prior to the international break. Danny Ings scored the goal for the home side.

Only three sides have picked up more points at home than Arsenal this season, while both of Southampton’s wins this season have come away from home.

These two sides have met 40 times in the Premier League. Arsenal have won on 22 occasions, losing on seven. Last season’s corresponding fixture finished 2-0 to Arsenal thanks to early goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Arsenal last lost a home match to a side inside the relegation zone back in 2007. You have to go back all the way to 1987 for Southampton’s last league win at Arsenal.

Arsenal team news vs Southampton

Dani Ceballos is Arsenal’s only injury concern heading into the weekend. The Spaniard picked up a minor hamstring injury prior to the international break and could sit this one out again.

Granit Xhaka featured for Switzerland during the international break but remains a major doubt. The ex-captain is yet to feature for the Gunners since his controversial substitution against Crystal Palace five games ago.

Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are expected to pair up in midfield, while Mesut Ozil could be handed another start in the number 10 role.

Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney should both start at right and left-fullback, respectively.

Sokratis lost his place in the side to Rob Holding last time out. The Greek defender faces a battle with Holding and Calum Chambers for a starting role next to David Luiz.

Nicolas Pepe is expected to return to the starting eleven following two consecutive league games on the bench.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were unused substitutes in Gameweek 11 and will be hoping for some minutes.

Southampton team news vs Arsenal

Michael Obafemi appears to be Southampton’s only injury concern. The forward withdrew from Ireland’s under-21 squad through injury and remains a doubt.

Cedric Soares recovered from injury before the international break but faces competition at right-back from Yan Valery.

Ryan Bertrand returns from a suspension this weekend.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg missed out last time with a concussion but is expected to be available.

Maya Yoshida is a further defensive option for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
