Arsenal boss Arteta provides William Saliba contract update

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has, on Friday, provided an update on the club’s ongoing efforts to tie William Saliba down to a new contract.

The subject of defender Saliba’s future, of course, has long taken its place centre stage in the headlines on the red half of north London.

This comes ahead of the expiration of the 22-year-old’s Arsenal contract in a little over a year’s time.

Saliba, prior to a recent spell on the sidelines, had played a central role in the Gunners’ surprise Premier League title challenge, forming a stellar partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the aforementioned Arteta’s backline.

In turn, it has come as little surprise to hear of eagerness on the part of the powers that be at The Emirates to extend the Frenchman’s expiring contract as soon as possible.

To this point, negotiations between the two parties have failed to bear fruit, albeit with confidence remaining high on Arsenal’s side that an agreement will ultimately be struck.

And the Spaniard appeared optimistic in his response, assuring that ‘we’re doing everything we possibly can to do that in the right moment’.
