Antoine Griezmann’s La Liga season is over & impact of Barcelona’s Champions League run

Real Valladolid 0 – Barcelona 1

Barcelona kept the La Liga race going on Saturday night with a 1-0 win at Real Valladolid.

Arturo Vidal scored the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.

The win lifted Barcelona to within one point of leaders Real Madrid.

Madrid are in action on Monday away at Granada.

Antoine Griezmann’s La Liga season is over

It’s been a difficult few weeks for French striker Antoine Griezmann.

There was plenty of analysis after Griezmann was only brought on the final minutes of the recent match against Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann has been starting for Barcelona since, however he was subbed out of the Real Valladolid at the break.

On Sunday, Barcelona have confirmed that Griezmann suffered a right-leg muscle injury.

According to Mundo Deportivo, that means Griezmann will be unable to feature for the club in their remaining two league fixtures.

Those matches are against Osasuna and Alaves.

Barcelona are also missing  Ansu Fati following his recent red card and suspension.

That means Luis Suarez and Martin Braithwaite are Barcelona’s attacking options, aside from Leo Messi.

Impact of Barcelona’s Champions League run

The good news from Mundo Deportivo is that Barcelona are hoping that Griezmann will be available to feature in their Champions League last-16 second-leg clash with Napoli.

That match is scheduled for August 8.

Barcelona drew 1-1 against Napoli in the first-leg.

Should Barcelona progress into the quarter-finals, they’ve been drawn against the winners of the Bayern Munich versus Chelsea tie. Bayern are 3-up in that one.
