4 key talking points ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action

Gameweek 23 of the 2022/23 Premier League season gets underway on Saturday the 11th of February.

The gameweek kicks off with a London derby as West Ham host Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday’s action then sees Leeds and Manchester United clash for a second time in a week before the gameweek is rounded out on Monday with the Merseyside derby.

Here are four talking points ahead of the upcoming gameweek.

Will Manchester City bounce back?

It has been a rough week for Manchester City. The Sky Blues blew their chance at closing the gap on Arsenal when they lost to Tottenham.

The Sky Blues were then brought up on a number of charges by the Premier League and are facing a possible points deduction.

So, has City’s season already gone up in smoke or can they bounce back this weekend vs Aston Villa?

Can Everton continue their climb under Dyche?

Dyche and co. now host bitter rivals Liverpool, who themselves have had a rough 2022/23 campaign.

Should Everton pick up back-to-back wins over Arsenal and Liverpool, it could be just the boost they need to avoid the drop.

Newcastle’s good form coming to an end

The first half of 2022/23 was very impressive from Newcastle. And whilst they remain on just one loss for the season, the number of draws they are picking up is costing them.

The Magpies have as many draws as wins in the league this season (10) and are now in danger of slipping out of the European places.

A lack of squad depth looks set to cost the North East outfit a spot in Europe’s most coveted club competition.

Chelsea need goals

Chelsea’s hopes of securing a Champions League place largely depends on Graham Potter fixing their attack.

The west Londoners have scored just 22 league goals this season, which is the lowest of the top 11 teams.

If they fail to score again vs West Ham this weekend, it is hard to see a late push for the top-four being mounted.
