The Western Conference’s bottom two go head-to-head with both, for obvious reasons, desperate for a victory.
Vancouver Whitecaps’ first win of 2022 came on 2 April when they welcomed SKC to BC Place, but they’ve only added two more MLS victories subsequently.
The Caps were beaten 2-1 by expansion club Charlotte FC last weekend, despite taking a second minute lead through Tosaint Ricketts in North Carolina.
This leaves Vanni Sartini’s side rooted to the foot of the west, yet to win away in MLS in 2022.
They did though claim a victory on the road on Wednesday night, albeit a very nervy one.
Following a 1-1 draw at ATCO Field, Vancouver snuck through to the Canadian Championship semi-finals, ousting Cavalry FC in a penalty shootout.
They’ll host another Canadian Premier League side York United FC next month, aiming to stay on track to win the trophy for the second time.
Sporting Kansas City meanwhile also enjoyed midweek cup success, beating Houston Dynamo 2-1 in the U.S. Open Cup.
Johnny Russell scoring both in that one as the Wizards reached the quarter-finals where they’ll host giant-killers Union Omaha in June.
Back in MLS though, despite finishing as the best in the west in both 2018 and 2020, Peter Vermes’ men are languishing in 13th.
SKC though are unbeaten in two having beaten Colorado 2-1 at home before a 1-1 draw at San Jose Quakes last weekend.
So, can Sporting Kansas City continue their mini-unbeaten streak at Children’s Mercy Park?
