Match preview

The Violets welcome Nice to the Stadium de Toulouse on Sunday for this Ligue 1 match.

Toulouse, are the 2021/22 Champions of Ligue 2. They achieved promotion to the French top-flight at the second time of asking, following their relegation in 2019/20 after finishing bottom of the table. Le Violets come into this match on a run of 14 home league games undefeated carried over from last season in Ligue 2. Although, they lost their last league match of the 2021/22 season away to Ajaccio. The final score of the match was 1-0.

The Violets are fortunate to come into Sunday’s match without any injuries or suspensions to worry about. This means we could see some of their new arrivals this summer make their full debuts for the club.

Thijs Dallinga is the most expensive signing for them this summer. The 21 year old centre-forward arrives from Excelsior Rotterdam for £2.25m. Zakaria Aboukhlal, a 22 year old right winger, also arrives from AZ Alkmaar for £1.80m. They have also added Oliver Zandén, a 20 year old left-back, and Kjetil Haug, a 24 year old goalkeeper, to the squad. The pair both arrive from Scandanavia on a permanent basis.

OGC Nice finished last Ligue 1 season in 5th place, three points ahead of RC Strasbourg Alsace in 6th. As a result, this earned them qualification into the UEFA Europa Conference League play off round. They will face either Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC (ISR) or Aris Thessaloniki FC (GRE) later this month.

Les Aiglons come into this match on a run of two away wins in a row carried over from last season. This includes their their last league match of the 2021/22 season away to Reims. The final score of the match was 2-3.

Alexis Beka Beka is the big name signing for them this summer. The 21 year old defensive midfielder arrives from Lokomotiv Moscow for £10.80m. Former Arsenal man Aaron Ramsey, a 31 year old central midfielder, also arrives from Juventus FC on a free transfer.

Marcin Bulka, a 22 year old goalkeeper, makes his loan move from last season a permanent one from Paris Saint-Germain for £1.80m. Teenage wingers Rares Ilie and Badredine Bouanani have also been added to the squad.

Nice could be without a number of players here. Most notably Andy Delort, who was their top scorer with 16 goals last season and is a doubt due to an injury for this match. Khephren Thuram (leg), Youcef Atal (shoulder), and Alexis Claude-Maurice (lower leg) are also doubts for Saturday’s game. Flavius Daniliuc is suspended for this match.
