It’s a massive game in Ligue 1 between Marseille and Rennes as fifth meets with second in the league with Igor Tudor’s side looking to move on from their terrible loss to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend that all but ended their hopes of a league title.
It’s been arguably the worst week of the season for Marseille after losing to PSG to throw them eight behind in the race for the Ligue 1 title. The club were then stunned by Annecy in the French Cup.
The Ligue 2 side went 1-0 down but came back to lead 2-1 before eventually winning on penalties after Alexis Sanchez missed a penalty in regular time. Jordan Veretout and Francois-Regis Mughe netted a goal each in that loss.
Tudor’s side still had a decent February, as they defeated Clermont Foot 2-0, Toulouse 3-2, Nantes 2-0, just as they also defeated PSG 2-1 in the French Cup.
As for Rennes, they sit fifth after edging past Nantes and beating Clermont Foot 2-0 just two weeks ago. They are, however, out of the Europa League after a loss to Shakhtar Donetsk and remain in slightly topsy-turvy form.
