Match preview

Paris Saint-Germain have rapidly become desperate to pick up all three points this Wednesday away to Montpellier with the champions experiencing a topsy-turvy time since the World Cup that has now brought Lens right into the title mixture.

PSG were spared their blushes over the weekend because of Lens’ draw with Troyes. It means the 1-1 draw for Lionel Messi and co. sees the second-placed side still three points behind them in the title race.

Neymar scored for the champions against Reims on Sunday night, but a Marco Verratti red card now means he misses this game. Worse yet, PSG were leading for most of the second half until Folarin Balogun scored in the 96th minute of the game.

Although PSG are still top of the table, Christophe Galtier has beaten only Angers and Strasbourg since the World Cup in Ligue 1 after losing to Lens and Rennes before this 1-1 draw with Reims in Paris.

As for Montpellier, Stephy Mavididi stole the headlines for them on Sunday with a second half brace snatching all three points away to Auxerre. His two goals now see his side five points above the bottom four and seven ahead of Auxerre in 19th.
