Match Preview

The sensational start to the season for Marseille continued last weekend with a comfortable victory over Nice as last season’s runners-up welcome Clermont Foot to the Orange Vélodrome with them losing again last time out.

It’s been a topsy-turvy start to the new season for Clermont Foot after narrowly avoiding the drop back into Ligue 1 last time out. The club kicked things off in the worst possible style by losing 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain on the opening weekend, but they immediately bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Reims. Komnen Andric netted twice in that game, with goals from Muhammed Cham Saracevic and Jeremie Bela adding to the tally.

A 1-0 victory over Nice looked to give Pascal Gastien’s men great confidence heading into the Lorient fixture, but two goals from Terem Moffi was enough for Lorient after Saracevic’s goal in the second half made it 2-1. Neto Borges was sent off that day and is now unavailable for this one.

As for Marseille, their recent win over Nice was a memorable one to say the least, as it now leaves them unbeaten and behind PSG by only goals difference after four games. What’s more, Alexis Sanchez opened up his Ligue 1 account that day with two goals, as Nuno Tavares continued to prove his worth with another excellent goal from range.

The only dropped points so far or Marseille came in the 1-1 draw with Brest, where Tavares’s opening goal was enough for a point away from home.

Marseille have been excellent at home this season, scoring six times and letting in two goals. This form and the return to the goals column for Sanchez should be enough to give them confidence in another three points here.
