Lyon remain in fourth after snatching a late equaliser on Sunday against Reims ahead of them welcoming the newly-promoted Auxerre to the Groupama Stadium this Wednesday night in the first set of midweek games across Europe’s top leagues.
It’s been a great improvement across the board for Lyon so far this season after the woes of last year forced them down into eighth in what was one of their worst campaigns in recent Ligue 1 history. However, it was the first time they have dropped points all season long with the postponed game against Lorient meaning they’ve played out just three fixtures so far. They kicked things off with a 2-1 win over Ajaccio, where Alexandre Lacazette marked a dream return to the club with a penalty, as Tete also scored.
The former Arsenal man was back amongst the goals againt against Troyes, where his goal after three minutes forced a 4-1 win where Nicolas Tagliafico scored his first goal of the season, just as Tete bagged himself a brace to make it three in three for him.
As for Auxerre, their return to Ligue 1 has been a commendable one. They are up in seventh right now after a fantastic two wins on the bounce against Strasbourg and Montpellier put them on a three-game unbeaten run, as they also drew 2-2 with Angers.
Auxerre did lose 4-1 to Lille on the opening day, but it leaves them in seventh and with great confidence of getting something out of what was expected to be a tough season for them.
