Two sides who have had entirely contrasting starts to the new Ligue 1 season will meet with Lille welcoming 18th-placed Nice to the Stade Pierre Mauroy off the back of another impressive win for the 2020/21 champions.
Lille had an almighty scare not too long ago when they were smashed 7-1 on home soil to the champions, Paris Saint-Germain. However, this remains the only time they’ve lost in the league so far, with them bouncing back with a 3-1 victory over the newly-promoted Ajaccio. Yusu Yazici, Jonathan Bamba and Tiago Djalo were the goalscorers last weekend.
The champions from two seasons back also registered a 1-1 draw with Nantes two weeks ago, but by hammering Auxerre on their Ligue 1 return 4-1, Lille sit fifth in the league and have started this campaign extremely better than their horrific efforts in defending the title last season.
As for Nice, they were demolished 3-0 by the title-chasing Marseille over the weekend, where the club had just two shots on target on home soil. In fact, this now keeps them winless in the league, alongside Angers, Strasbourg and Ajaccio.
The only points Nice have racked up have come in 1-1 draws with Toulouse and Strasbourg, with a defeat away to Clermont Foot keeping them desperate for all three points in the league. However, by edging past Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Europa Conference League play-offs, they are heading into Europe this season.
Lille’s form has greatly improved from last, and this should be enough to get them all three points in the bag once more.
