Valencia vs Sevilla match preview

In the last 20 years, Sevilla’s average league position has been fifth, while Valencia’s stands at sixth.

However, right now, two of Spain’s biggest clubs are simply battling to remain in the top-flight after both have endured nightmare seasons so far.

Valencia’s predicament is far more alarming, kicking off in the relegation zone.

Last weekend, los Che were beaten 2-1 by relegation rivals Almería, with Samu Castillejo’s goal in vain at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos.

So, Rubén Baraja’s team are now winless in three games, after he’d began his tenure with back-to-back home wins.

Six of los Murciélagos’ seven victories this season have come in front of their own fans, so can Valencia claim a vital Sunday night victory here?

On Thursday night, los Nervionenses appeared to be whimpering out against Manchester United, with two quick-fire goals seeing them 2-0 down at Old Trafford.

However, a pair of own goal, coming in the 86th and 93rd minutes, saw Sevilla somehow leave England with a draw.

Thus, José Luis Mendilibar’s men are in a great position to reach the semi-finals, with Man United visited Andalucía this week.

Back in La Liga, Mendilibar is still unbeaten as Sevilla boss, beating Cádiz in his first match in charge before a dramatic 2-2 draw with Celta de Vigo last Friday.

Both Pape Gueye and Marcos Acuña were sent off in that one, with Celta coming from 2-0 down to draw, scoring twice in stoppage time.

Nevertheless, Sevilla start the weekend 13th on 32 points, knowing another two wins will surely ensure they stay up.

Will Valencia make home advantage count at Mestalla?
